Raili's school had an International Day on Friday and all kids were asked to wear a traditional outfit from their home country, bring traditional home country snacks to class and greet everyone at the assembly in their native tongue.

Miss Raili had a slight identity crisis leading up to the party as she couldn't decide if she should be "English" (they speak English in Minnesota, don't they?) or "Finnish". In the end, she told Ms. Caroline that she wanted to be Finnish because she wanted to wear her beloved "Suomi-verkkarit" to school (Kiitos Paulalle!).

So all the kids from the international stream sat in the courtyard wearing their outfits (by 10am it was too hot to wear the SUOMI-top so the teachers had taken it off, oh well), waving flags and greeting parents. David told me when the kids got the microphone somehow they forgot what they were supposed to say and instead of saying good morning in their own language, every child ended up saying "hello" in their own accent. So you had the French accented "hello" ('aloo?), Chinese hello (hawoo?), etc. Raili's came out as "halooo". Nice.

Afterwards they had snacks in the classroom and did some arts and crafts with parents.
