A couple of weeks ago I was wondering what the next food scare was going to be...well, it looks like they now found melamine in the chicken feed and consequently, in Chinese eggs:

The "theory" has been that even if animals eat melamine enlaced feed, it does not pass to eggs or meat...so much for that theory I guess. So we're going to stay away from local chicken and eggs and continue buying imported meats. It really hurts the pocket book; a pound of imported ground beef from Australia goes for almost $10. Just eat vegetables? A while back they also found melamine in a lot of Chinese cabbage exported to Korea, so...

There is a Chinese joke going around related to this whole mess. Paraphrasing: "There are two ways to die; be poisoned to death or die by starvation."
